PETROBEL Water Treatment Plant
Design, engineering, and supply of a new redundant PLC-based control system including:
PETROBEL Water Treatment Plant Automation System
PETROBEL, a key operator in Egypt’s oil and gas sector, partnered with MISC to implement a modern, reliable control system for its water treatment plant. The project aimed to replace aging or limited control solutions with a state-of-the-art, high-availability automation platform to ensure process reliability, enhance operational control, and facilitate long-term maintenance.
Project Scope
- Design, supply, and commissioning of a new PLC-based control system for the water treatment plant.
- Implementation of a redundant Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500R controller and ET200SP distributed I/O for maximum availability.
- Integration of a modern HMI system using Siemens WinCC and establishment of MODBUS TCP/IP communication with the existing ABB DCS.
- Supply of electrical enclosures, marshalling, and all necessary engineering, documentation, and training.
Key Benefits
- Migration to a high-availability, fault-tolerant automation platform with redundant controllers and I/O modules to minimize downtime.
- Enhanced operator situational awareness and control through advanced HMI visualization with diagnostics and alarm management.
- Improved system scalability and maintainability using Siemens’ latest TIA Portal technology.
- Seamless integration into the existing control architecture via robust MODBUS communication.
Outcome
This project equipped PETROBEL with a future-proof, highly reliable control system for its water treatment operations. MISC’s solution ensures safe and efficient plant performance, reduces lifecycle costs, and provides a scalable platform for future expansions.
