Upgrading The Control System Of Heaters Units & Glycol Regeneration Packages At El Gamil Plant

Design, implementation and supply of upgraded control system for the following:

PETROBEL Glycol Regeneration & Reboiler Heater Automation Upgrade

PETROBEL, a major player in Egypt’s oil and gas industry, partnered with MISC to upgrade the control systems of critical glycol regeneration units and reboiler heaters. The existing automation platforms, based on Siemens S5 PLCs and OP7 HMIs, had become obsolete and limited in functionality. PETROBEL sought a future-ready solution that would enhance reliability, add advanced features, and ensure long-term maintainability.

Project Scope

  • Upgrade of 3 Glycol Regeneration Units and 2 Reboiler Heaters
  • Replacement of Siemens S5 PLCs and OP7 HMIs with modern Siemens platforms
  • Integration of additional control and monitoring features for enhanced operational efficiency

Key Benefits

  • Migration from obsolete systems to high-availability automation platforms with enhanced redundancy
  • Improved visualization and operator control through modern HMIs with trending, diagnostics, and alarms
  • Greater process reliability, maintainability, and scalability to support PETROBEL’s long-term operational strategy
  • Advanced features tailored for oil & gas processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards

Outcome

Through this strategic modernization, MISC empowered PETROBEL to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of its glycol regeneration and reboiler units, extending equipment lifecycle while adopting cutting-edge control technology.

Technology used:

For 2 Units: Siemens SIMATIC S7-400H redundant PLCs + TP1500 Comfort HMIs
