Fire Fighting & Fire Alarm Systems For (15) Floating Tanks & (2) Propane Vessels (SOPC)

Design, implementation and supply of Fire Fighting & Fire Alarm system, in accordance with NFPA 72 and SIL2 certification for:

PREMIUM (SOPC) Fire & Gas Protection System for Floating Tanks and Propane Vessels

PREMIUM for SOPC undertook a critical safety upgrade project to protect its assets, implementing a comprehensive Fire Fighting and Fire Alarm System for 15 Floating Tanks and 2 Propane Vessels. Partnering with MISC, the goal was to install a highly reliable, fault-tolerant automation system capable of immediate hazard detection and response, ensuring the highest level of safety and asset protection for the entire tank farm area.

Project Scope

  • Design and supply of two independent, high-integrity safety systems: one for the large Floating Tanks area and a second for the critical Propane Vessels.
  • Implementation of redundant, TUV-certified SIL2 Siemens S7-400H fault-tolerant controllers with fail-safe I/O modules for each system.
  • Establishment of a centralized SCADA infrastructure featuring a redundant server, multiple operator workstations, and an engineering laptop for plant-wide supervision and data acquisition.
  • Supply of UPS units to ensure 4 hours of backup power and comprehensive sparing for long-term system maintainability.

Key Benefits

  • Implementation of the highest safety integrity level (SIL2) with fault-tolerant, redundant architecture to prevent system failure during a critical event.
  • Enhanced plant-wide situational awareness and centralized control through a robust SCADA system, enabling rapid operator response to alarms.
  • Maximum system availability and diagnostic capabilities with hot-swappable modules and extensive built-in diagnostics for both hardware and software.
  • Reliable operation during main power failure, ensuring continuous protection with extended UPS backup for all critical control and monitoring equipment.

Outcome

MISC delivered a turnkey, safety-certified protection system that provided PREMIUM (SOPC) with an unparalleled level of security for its flammable storage facilities. The project significantly mitigated the risk of fire-related incidents, ensuring the safety of personnel, protecting high-value assets, and ensuring compliance with stringent international safety standards for the oil and gas industry.
