SCADA & Control System For Kafr El Zayat WTP 34000 m3/day
Design, installation and commissioning of SCADA & PLC- based systems for the following packages:
VEOLIA Kafr El Zayat STP Comprehensive Automation Upgrade
VEOLIA, a global leader in environmental services, partnered with MISC to execute a large-scale automation upgrade for the Kafr El Zayat Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Egypt. The project aimed to modernize the control and monitoring of both existing and new plant processes, encompassing filtration, chemical dosing, sludge handling, and pump stations, to enhance overall operational efficiency, reliability, and data transparency.
Project Scope
- Design and supply of a complete, distributed automation system based on Siemens technology.
- Engineering, manufacturing, and testing of six local control panels (LCPs) with S7-1500 PLCs and HMIs for major process areas.
- Supply of two remote telemetry unit (RTU) panels based on ET200 I/O system.
- Supply of twelve filter control desks (FCDs) with S7-1200 compact PLCs and HMIs for granular filter control.
- Implementation of a central SCADA system with a 60″ large screen for plant-wide visualization.
- Establishment of a robust fiber-optic Ethernet network with managed and unmanaged switches.
Key Benefits
- A scalable and modern control architecture using Siemens S7-1500/1200 platforms for future-proof reliability and performance.
- Enhanced local operator control with HMIs across all major units, complemented by centralized SCADA oversight.
- Automated control logic for critical processes, such as filter backwashing, ensuring consistent and optimal plant performance.
- Improved maintenance and troubleshooting capabilities through a networked system with comprehensive diagnostics.
Outcome
MISC delivered a fully integrated automation solution that provided VEOLIA with unparalleled control and visibility over the Kafr El Zayat STP operations. The modernization effort resulted in increased plant efficiency, reduced manual intervention, and a solid technological foundation for VEOLIA to manage the facility effectively and meet its environmental treatment objectives.
