Hardware engineering, panel building and commissioning of new PCS7 control system.
Siemens Technologies was responsible for a new PCS 7 control system at the Nouran Sugar plant and subcontracted MISC for a large-scale expansion of the system’s physical footprint. This project involved the detailed engineering, assembly, and supply of a comprehensive suite of control cabinets and consoles to house and interface the distributed I/O for the plant-wide automation system.
• Large-Scale Panel Manufacturing: Assembly and supply of 24 IP54 floor-standing Remote I/O cabinets, 3 floor-standing I/O consoles with integrated HMIs, and 7 specialized cabinets for client IPCs and power management systems.
• Comprehensive Hardware Engineering: Full design services including automation network architecture, panel arrangement drawings, detailed wiring diagrams, and cable schedules to Siemens and project specifications.
• High-Specification Marshalling: All cabinets featured fused terminal blocks with LEDs for digital signals, disconnecting knives for analog signals, and interposing relays for all digital outputs, ensuring signal integrity and protection.
• Future-Proofing: All racks included 20% wired spares for each module and 20% free space for future expansion, providing significant scalability.
• Scalable and Robust Infrastructure: The extensive array of panels provided a robust, distributed, and organized foundation for the entire PCS 7 DCS, facilitating easy maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Enhanced Signal Integrity and Safety: The use of fused terminals, isolating relays, and high-quality components protected the sensitive controller I/O from field-side faults, increasing system reliability.
• Streamlined System Integration: The turnkey panel solution allowed Siemens to focus on core system configuration and software, accelerating the overall project timeline for Nouran Sugar.
• Operational Readiness: The consoles with integrated HMIs provided local operator stations, while the IPC and network cabinets ensured a stable and managed IT infrastructure for the control system.
MISC successfully delivered a critical, large-scale hardware platform that formed the backbone of the Nouran Sugar plant’s new DCS. This seamless integration of physical infrastructure with Siemens’ PCS 7 system ensured a reliable, maintainable, and expandable automation environment for the client’s operations.
