OPC Nitrogen Plant Automation Migration

Oriental Petrochemicals Company (OPC) partnered with Siemens to modernize the automation system of its Nitrogen Plant. Siemens selected MISC as its trusted engineering partner to execute this critical migration project. The existing Siemens S5 controllers and operator workstations had become obsolete, creating challenges for reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

Project Scope

  • Migration from Siemens S5 to Siemens PCS 7 DCS
  • Replacement of old controllers with new PCS 7 controllers
  • Deployment of redundant ET200M I/O racks with full I/O and network redundancy
  • Supply and commissioning of modern Operator Workstations (OWS) with advanced control and monitoring capabilities

Key Benefits

  • Transition to a cutting-edge DCS platform (PCS 7), securing long-term support and scalability
  • Full system redundancy at controller, I/O, and network levels for maximum reliability and uptime
  • Improved operator control and visibility through advanced OWS with alarms, diagnostics, and trending features
  • Extended lifecycle of critical assets with modern, standardized Siemens technology
  • Enhanced plant safety, reliability, and efficiency through integrated automation and monitoring

Outcome

Through this migration, MISC enabled AQFC to replace obsolete systems with a future-ready PCS 7 automation platform, ensuring secure, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of the Nitrogen Plant for years to come.
