SCADA & Control System For Assiut Supercritical Power Station (1 X 650 MW), Water & Wastewater Treatment Systems

Design, installation and commissioning of three SCADA & PLC- based systems With total Input / Output capacity of 3000 I/O for the following packages:

VEOLIA- Assiut Power Plant (1×650 MW) Critical Utility Automation

VEOLIA, a global leader in optimized resource management, partnered with MISC to implement a high-availability automation solution for the critical water treatment utilities at the Assiut Power Plant. The project required fault-tolerant control systems to ensure the uninterrupted supply of demineralized water and safe handling of chlorine, which are essential for the efficient and safe operation of the 650 MW power generation unit.

Project Scope

• Design and supply of three independent, yet interconnected, Siemens S7-400H redundant PLC systems for the Water Treatment Plant, • • • Chlorine Gas System, and Condensate Polishing Plant (CPP).
• Implementation of a comprehensive SCADA architecture based on a client/server model, featuring dedicated operator, historian, and engineering stations for each plant.
• Supply of remote operator stations in the main control room, connected via fiber-optic links to the Chlorine and CPP systems for centralized monitoring.
• Establishment of robust Profibus and Industrial Ethernet networks for controller and SCADA communication.
• Integration with the plant’s main DCS via a redundant OPC UA server for seamless data exchange.

Key Benefits

• Implementation of fault-tolerant S7-400H technology across all critical utility plants, guaranteeing maximum process availability and zero control loss.
• A centralized yet distributed SCADA approach, providing both localized control and remote oversight from the main control room for enhanced operational flexibility and safety.
• Comprehensive data historization and reporting capabilities for performance analysis, regulatory compliance, and preventive maintenance.
• Enhanced safety for the chlorine gas system through dedicated, high-integrity control and remote monitoring.

Outcome

MISC delivered a robust and highly reliable automation backbone for the power plant’s vital utilities. The solution empowered VEOLIA to ensure the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of water treatment and chemical processes, directly supporting the power plant’s overall reliability and operational excellence goals.
